King in Rags
King in Rags. King in Rags is the exile's last resort, and they have used it twice. Three times in their life — no more — they may summon a band of the discarded to their side. The summons travels through the margins of the world: through the beggar quarters, the camp follower lines, the debtors' cells, the hedge-priest circuits. Within a night, a band gathers. They are not soldiers. They are smiths, cooks, washerwomen, runaway apprentices, discharged spear-carriers — people who have nothing left to lose and a debt to the exile they cannot name. They will fight for one night. They will not be commanded after dawn. They will ask nothing in return, and they will not come again. The exile has one summons left. They are saving it for the night they go home.
